The U.S. Navy Chief petty officer is the saltiest S.O.B. on the boat. He’s salty because he’s been around for a long time and to hold the highest enlisted rank ( other than senior and master chief ), he would have to be. He’s seen it and heard it all before, he’s been on every boat in the fleet and has spent more time on the ocean than Popeye, Christopher Columbus, Gilligan and Long John Silver combined ! He’s drank more beer than Homer Simpson, everyone the boat is a dumb ass and he once rowed a frigate from 20 miles of the coast of Okinawa to the Philippines because the ol’ diesel broke. He has stories to prove that story and any other story he tells. He’s grumpy for 18 of the 24 hours in the day. ( he sleeps for 6 ) because the skipper doesn’t know his asshole from his elbow and he can’t wait to get the hell off this tuna can and get his DD-214 and retire so far away from a boat he might end up in the dessert or a corn field !
